All proceeds go directly towards providing weekly trauma-informed yoga within mental health programs, addictions recovery centres, prisons, transition houses, youth centres, and other social service centres across British Columbia.
This training is suitable for movement instructors and/or yoga teachers serving students who face multiple barriers, including mental health challenges, violence, incarceration, or addiction.
It's also suitable for people planning to work or volunteer in social service settings with marginalized populations.
"I took part in the training in 2014 and I thought it was absolutely invaluable. As a yoga instructor, I want to be aware of who might be coming to my class and what they may be dealing with.
Yoga Outreach provides the language and education necessary to teach not only the general population, but also those who may be dealing with trauma or other mental health issues."
Nicole Marcia, MA, TCTSY-F, C-IAYT, YACEP
Since 2004, Nicole has taught therapeutic yoga classes and offered individual sessions to trauma survivors. Nicole also trains yoga and healthcare professionals in trauma-informed yoga theory and techniques.
At present, in addition to maintaining a private practice working with public safety personnel and first responders at Boreal Wellness, Nicole is a program director and teacher trainer with Yoga Outreach.
She provides trauma informed yoga programming to the residents at Deborah’s Gate, a program serving women who have been trafficked into situations of sexual and/or labor exploitation and Tupper Nova, a day treatment program for youth who have serious mental health concerns.
