We shall celebrate the incoming light with a special meditative journey and a creative ritual you can offer at your own house.
The traditional art of kolam or rangoli is a devotional offering to nature and the cosmos, and in south India the women lay down these impermanent designs to cleanse and protect the household daily.
We will explore how to make a Kolam offering with natural materials provided in the Art Kit (created by Krupa Jhaveri (Sankalpa Art Journeys)
You can choose to work with the actual Yellow Art Kit, or you can work with your own materials, exploring patterns with pen/pencil and paper, or chalk on chalkboard.
Handmade kit with treasures for you to connect to the traditions living within you through:
• A traditional brass vessel
• Kolam powder (rice flour & stone powder mixture) in a degradable bag
• Natural colors in tins for adorning earth designs (yellow turmeric and red kumkum)
• White wish candle with carving pick
• Instruction card
• Reusable cotton cloth bag with hand-painted & hand-stitched logo
In the Tamil language, kolam translates to beauty, form and play, and with this kit you have the chance to encounter and honor this tradition (not appropriate it), to explore the connection between your hands, heart, body and spirit.
The ritual aspect of this set allows a deepening of self-understanding through nature-based impermanent creation. Over time, a relationship is cultivated with many elements in the surroundings, grounding self into the larger map of the universe!
