Inward: a 7 week series on Meditation

Meditation is a safe, natural and accessible practice that allows us to relax our minds and get in touch with our selves.

Think about the times you've felt most relaxed, creative and free-- in the world of meditation, we say that feeling of freedom and peace is already within us. Meditation is simply the tool that helps us harness these feelings and bring them into our daily lives.

When we devote our awareness and attention to listening deeply, we begin to experience shifts in how we understand ourselves- our thoughts and feelings- and this in turn, influences how we show up in our relationships, jobs, family life, communities and so on.

The benefits of meditation are increasingly well known- science tells us it can reduce anxiety, improve memory and focus, and even increase our sense of well-being. But in the best of times, knowing that something is ‘good' for us doesn’t always make it easy to do. Add to that, a culture built on being busy, and yes, I’d agree- it’s really hard to ‘find time’ to sit in quiet, every day.

During our 7-weeks Inward, we will explore various tools and techniques to help you build a regular practice of meditation. Whether you are curious, new, or exposed to different meditation practices, this series offers the fundamentals of meditation in a safe and supported group setting.

Together, we’ll:
  • Explore barriers to developing a regular meditation habit;
  • Learn tools and techniques to overcome these barriers;
  • Put into practice these learned tools; and
  • Build a community of quiet that can support your on-going meditation practice.

In addition to the basics of meditation (seating, props, postures and basic techniques), this course will emphasize:
  • Anapanasati- the breath as the starting point in meditation
  • Mindfulness - taking our practice into our daily lives
  • Sadhana- how to effectively build a daily ritual of meditation
  • Motives- what is driving our practice of meditation
  • Dharma – storytelling and mindfulness
  • Sangha- the role of community in our meditation practice

No previous meditation experience required- all curious quiet seekers welcome!Props are provided - if you have preferred props, please bring them to class with you. Loose, stretchy and warm clothing will make your sits more comfortable.

“Meditation is basic (spiritual) practice for quieting the mind and getting in touch with our deeper Self. (...)

Meditation is a way of listening more deeply (...)

Meditation enhances your insight, reveals your true nature, and brings you inner peace.”
